The Commission owes a special debt of gratitude to The History Channel and its chief historian Dr. Libby O’Connell. At the request of the Commission to further its work of remembrance, The History Channel produced the National Anthem video and the Charters of Freedom video shown at the ceremony.

Now reaching more than 87 million Nielsen subscribers, The History Channel, “Where the past comes alive,” brings history to life in a powerful manner and provides an inviting place where people can experience history personally and connect their own lives to the great lives and events of the past.

American Foreign Service Association

At more than 250 locations around the globe, U.S. Foreign Service personnel serve as the diplomatic arm of the United States.  They are charged with protecting America’s national interests and promoting peace, stability, democracy and human rights throughout the world. In today’s terrorist environment, the lives of these brave men and women are often placed in great jeopardy, yet they continue to serve for a nation in which they so strongly believe.

The first diplomat to die in service to our Nation was William Palfrey in 1780. The two most recent Foreign Service personnel to lose their lives were Stephen Sullivan and David Foy, who died at the hands of suicide bombers.  Stephen Sullivan was serving in Iraq as a Diplomatic Security special agent, while David Foy was serving as a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan.  Today we pay tribute and celebrate the lives of David Foy, Stephan Sullivan and the hundreds of the other Foreign Service personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolutionary (founded 1888) and its Color Guard (formed 1897) perpetuate the memory of the men who achieved the independence of this great country and continue to strive to inspire the patriotic spirit of their forefathers.  The Society also promotes the understanding and knowledge of Revolutionary War history and the preservation of artifacts from that period.
