From Our Interns

Internship Program

Each year the White house Commission on Remembrance accepts interns from throughout the country to help the Commission honor our fallen and their families.  Interns perform a wide variety of tasks, including coordination of tributes, various administrative duties and organizing special projects.  This summer’s interns established the United Remembrance Network for Higher Education, which encourages college students to “live honoring our fallen.”  Students can give back by simply registering to vote or donating blood and promoting the National Moment of Remembrance.

“When honoring our fallen, the labels, party affiliations, hyphens, creeds, and all the terms that divide us, cease to be.  We are one people, Americans.  Working at the White Commission on Remembrance has helped me to fully understand unity and sacrifice.”

Barrett Lyle, Summer ‘08

“Interning at the White House Commission on Remembrance was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity; I have acquired a deeper sense of patriotism, a greater appreciation for the value liberty, and a stronger sense of gratitude for our fallen servicemen and women.  This is an exceptionally worthy cause that truly connects the nation and invokes a common sense of unity among its citizens.”

Amit Patel, Summer ‘08

“Knowing that everything I do at the White House Commission on Remembrance is done to honor our fallen is an indescribable feeling.”

Zach Solberg, Summer '08

“My time at the commission was an incredible experience.  I learned the daily workings of running a governmental agency and a small office, a lesson I will treasure whatever the future holds.  I met and interacted daily with some of the great “movers and shakers” in this country, all on behalf of a great cause: recognizing and honoring the sacrifice of so many in our armed forces.”

Thomas P. Hupez, Summer ‘08

“Interning with the White House Commission on Remembrance has indeed been an honor and valuable experience.  Due to the efforts of this Commission I have developed this great sense of gratitude for our service members.  I applaud them for their courage and willingness to serve.  This Commission does a great job in making Remembrance a type priority.”

Jammie Lee Jelks, Summer ‘08

“Honoring the fallen and their family means appreciating the hard work and sacrifices made by these brave men and women. This is what the White House Commission on Remembrance is about and I deeply respect such great effort.”

Taiwo-Margaret Ademola, Summer ‘08

“The White House Commission on Remembrance has been a great opportunity for me to learn and experience teamwork in a professional setting.”

Taylor Carter, Summer ‘08

Interning with the White House Commission on Remembrance was a lifetime experience for me. During my internship, I was assigned to do a lot of different tasks that enabled me to exercise my College knowledge. It was great to work with other people, and especially having a boss for the first time. I was so happy that I had a chance to meet the U.S Senators, Veterans Affairs Secretary, and Generals. The White House Commission on Remembrance was a good start for my career.”
